Cat 1 C Entry to a Distribution or Primary of Grid Substation with exposed conductors.
Cat 2 B Supervise a working party under a Limitation of Access (LOA) or Permit to Work (PTW).
Cat 3 A Supervise a working party in an exposed, live HV substation, open bus bar compound.
Cat 3 B Supervise a working party in an exposed, live HV overhead line environment.
Cat 4 E Work in live LV panels including metering secondary wiring.

Cat 7 C HV switching on overhead systems up to & including 33kV (including line isolator / earth switches in substation compounds.

Cat 7 E HV switching on systems at 33kV up to and including 132kV.
Cat 12 E Local control of HV systems to Network Operating Procedure (NOP 1, 2, 3, with NOP 4 restricted to overhead work.
Cat 14 A Issue and cancellation of LOA’s.
Cat 14 B Issue and Cancel an isolation certificate for electrical systems.
Cat 14 E Issue and cancel a PTW for overhead systems up to and including 33kV.
Cat 14 F Issue and cancel a PTW for underground systems and substation environment up to and including 33kV.
Cat 14 G Issue and cancel a PTW for underground and overhead systems exceeding 33kV but not exceeding 132kV.
Cat 15 C Issue and cancel a Sanction for Test (SFT) for systems up to and including 33kV.
Cat 15 D Issue and cancel an SFT for systems exceeding 33kV but not exceeding 132kV.

Plant / protection Commissioning

Commissioning witnessing

Witness the initial manufacturer pre-commissioning on behalf of the customer to ensure that all pre-commissioning is carried out to the customers requirements and to best industry practice and standards.

Primary commissioning

Carry out primary commissioning of plant up to and including 132kV that is not covered by manufacturer on site pre-commissioning or where the customer has not witnessed the manufacturers on site pre-commissioning. Commissioning tests may include the following.

  • Primary connection resistance test (Ducter Test) to include all bus-bars, isolators and earth connections.
  • Primary injection of all Current transformers.
  • Magnetising current tests (Mag Curves).
  • Bus Bar protection (Bus Zone) balance tests.
  • HV Flash tests including commissioning of VPIS phasing units.

Secondary commissioning

Carry out secondary injection testing of all protection relays.

Overall Scheme Commissioning

Carry out functional testing of schemes from single 11kV feeder protection to 132kV primary substation schemes.

Cable Test and Fault location

Cable Sheath Testing

Sheath testing will include preparation of cable end for testing, provision of calibrated test equipment, carrying out test as per customer requirement in terms of voltage and duration of test, recapping of cable end using cold fit caps provided by customer, provision of a test certificate for each circuit section and all relevant safety paperwork required by the customer (risk assessments and method statements).

Cable Fault location

  • Locate Cable faults on cable sheaths up to 132kV prior to connection to the network.
  • Locate cable faults on HV cables connected to the network up to 132kV.
